Things to bear in mind when working away from home
1. Where you’ll stay.
If your company sent you away to work in another branch or department, the first thing you’ll need to figure out is where you’re going to stay. If you’re only going to be working away from home for a few days or a week at most, a hotel is probably your best, most feasible option. However, any longer than that and it can become unmanageable staying in a hotel, without your home comforts. If you’re going to be working away from home for a number of weeks or months, then we recommend staying in corporate housing. This can be an apartment or a home, suitable for your whole family, and it works out more economical than a hotel in the long-run.
2. Will your family be joining you
Sometimes working away from home is a short-term project and only requires you to be away for a few days or a few weeks. If you’re away for a month or more, you may consider bringing your family with you. If they join you, you would all be more comfortable and at ease in a self-contained, fully-furnished house or apartment, like the ones we provide here at Capri Temporary Housing.
3. Local places of interest
If you’ll be spending a long time in your temporary work location without the opportunity of returning home every weekend, then you’ll want to know what the town or city offers in terms of places of interest and entertainment. Whether you’re interested in sports, the arts, history or anything else, it’s a good idea to get a feel for the local community before you go. This will help your time working away from home to fly by and you may come to appreciate the culture and community in another part of the country as much as your hometown.
4. Eating out
When you’re working away from home, it can be tempting to eat out every night. If you’re staying in a hotel, it may even be necessary. This is another reason why renting corporate housing is a great idea. You’ll have a fully equipped kitchen to cook your own food, especially beneficial if you have any food allergies. Plus, it’ll keep your costs lower than eating out in restaurants, not to mention it’ll keep your waistline in check.
5. Transport
Maybe you haven’t even considered this point, however it is still important to consider when working away from home. If you’ll be working more than a few hours away from your home then it’s more than likely that you’ll not be taking your own car with you, so review the local transport options before you arrive. Will it be better to rent a car, get a taxi or Uber each trip, or even buy a bike. Is public transport an option, or would it be too time consuming?
